7 Automotive Industry Titans Collaborating On New Contintent-Wide Charging Network

Mercedes-Benz EV Charging

In the realm of cars, some big names like BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, the team here at Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV are teaming up to make electric cars more convenient to own in North America. The plan? They want to make it super easy to charge these cars all across the continent.

Imagine this: more than 30,000 super-fast charging stations creating a huge network. This should get drivers in Long Island and Roslyn even more excited about driving EVs than they already are. So, when does this roll out?

When to Expect the Network Rollout?

Get ready because this team effort is set to happen later this year, once they finish all the official paperwork. The first charging stations are planned to show up in the United States by the summer of 2024, and then they’ll head up to Canada. Each station will have a number of super-fast chargers, making long road trips in electric cars way easier. And here’s the really cool part: all the energy these stations use will come from renewable sources, like wind and sun, to help keep our planet healthy.

Making Electric Vehicles Even More Attractive

Imagine a charging network that takes electric cars to a whole new level of convenience. It’s like upgrading your ride to a luxury version. These charging stations will be super convenient, potentially striking down one of the major rebuttals for not purchasing an EV – accessibility and availability of charging stations. Most stations will be covered to protect you from the weather, and extra amenities like bathrooms, places to eat, and shops nearby.

Driving into a Greener Future

These stations will pop up in cities and on big highways virtually everywhere across the country. And they’ll integrate with the apps and navigation in the cars from the seven majors companies behind the project. That means things like booking a charger, finding the best route, paying easily, and managing how much energy you’re using will be streamlined for your convenience.

So, if you’re on the EV train, get ready for some seriously exciting changes. Electric cars are about to get a major upgrade, backed by some big names in the car world. Time to hit the road, the electric way!

Behind the Scenes

Let’s take a look at what some of the CEOs of certain manufacturers had to say about bringing idea to fruition:

Our own Mercedes-Benz Group CEOOla Källenius: “The fight against climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. What we need now is speed – across political, social and corporate boundaries. To accelerate the shift to electric vehicles, we’re in favor of anything that makes life easier for our customers. Charging is an inseparable part of the EV-experience, and this network will be another step to make it as convenient as possible.”

GM CEO Mary Barra: “GM’s commitment to an all-electric future is focused not only on delivering EVs our customers love, but investing in charging and working across the industry to make it more accessible. The better experience people have, the faster EV adoption will grow.”

Honda CEOToshihiro Mibe: “The creation of EV charging services is an opportunity for automakers to produce excellent user experiences by providing complete, convenient and sustainable solutions for our customers. Toward that objective, this joint venture will be a critical step in accelerating EV adoption across the U.S. and Canada and supporting our efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.”
