Learning how to check the oil in your new or pre-owned car can help protect all the engine’s internal moving parts of your vehicle. Motor oil is the lifeblood of your Mercedes-Benz vehicle, and the proper levels are required to prevent engine damage and maintain optimal performance. In between visits to our Rallye Motors service center, Long Island drivers can easily check their oil levels at home to maintain their vehicle.
While many vehicles have traditional dipsticks, some newer vehicles have electronic oil monitors. You’ll want to start by checking your owner’s manual for the automaker’s recommendations for your specific model. To manually check your oil using a dipstick, follow these simple steps:
All dipsticks will have some method of indicating the proper oil level. If the top of your oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, the level is good. If you find the oil level is below these markings, you’ll need to add more oil.
Before topping off your oil at home, you’ll want to check your owner’s manual to ensure you purchase the right grade for your make and model. Feel free to reach out to the Rallye Motors parts department if you need help locating the correct oil. Once you have the right oil for your model, you’ll want to remove the oil filler cap. Then add oil a little at a time, making sure to check the levels until the dipstick indicates you’ve reached the proper level.
